CURE released this POWERFUL ad against the recent Democratic attacks on the Second Amendment.
The Never Again Campaign aims to illustrate the very real link between gun control and the historical black experience in this country. Literally from Jim Crow until present day, black urban communities have been under siege and they cannot protect themselves, and the inability and/or reluctance of law enforcement to protect them. During the Black Codes the right to bear arms was taken away and perpetuated during Jim Crow.
Today 16 percent of Black Americans are armed, and in communities like Chicago where there is the most stringent of gun regulations, murder rates from gun violence are the highest in the nation. The link is indisputable. The full measure of the 2nd amendment must be upheld. It is in the best interest of all Americans, and especially African Americans.
On September 28, 1868, a mob of Democrats massacred nearly 300 African-American Republicans in Opelousas, Louisiana. The savagery began when racist Democrats attacked a newspaper editor, a white Republican and schoolteacher for ex-slaves. Several African-Americans rushed to the assistance of their friend, and in response, Democrats went on a “Negro hunt,” killing every African-American (all of whom were Republicans) in the area they could find. The blacks didn’t have guns. Democrats took them.
The Center for Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) is a group of prominent figures from the African American community against gun control legislation currently being considered on Capitol Hill.
